Well-Being
Mental, emotional and physical wellness affect every aspect of student life—from academic performance to personal growth and engagement with peers. Yet many students face mental health challenges, feelings of isolation or stressors that make daily life a struggle. Without coordinated programs, these obstacles can hinder their success and fulfillment.
Student Affairs promotes holistic well-being across body, mind and spirit. As mental health pressures rise, these programs are more essential than ever. The Mental Health First Aid program trains students, faculty and staff to recognize when someone is struggling and respond with compassion. In partnership with the UMD Counseling Center, the Mental Health Emergency Assessment & Response Team, staffed by licensed mental health professionals, provides on-site crisis support and rapid response. Drawing on insights from the Mental Health Task Force, these efforts create a culture where students feel supported and never have to confront difficulties on their own.
To build on this foundation, we are establishing a comprehensive Wellness Center and creating a dedicated Wellness staff lead position. The center will serve as a hub for well-being programs, connecting initiatives across campus. A Wellness staff leader will ensure programs are strategic, integrated and responsive. Together, these efforts make well-being a visible and accessible part of daily life for every Terp.
Gifts will fund the creation of the Wellness Center, sustain staffing for holistic programs and expand mental health access and training across campus. Your investment ensures students have the tools, mentorship and opportunities to prioritize their health, strengthen resilience and excel in their studies.
