Do Good
Anchored in SPP, the Do Good Institute (DGI) has already transformed UMD into the nation’s first Do Good Campus, empowering students to launch nonprofits, scale social ventures and integrate impact into their careers. While DGI has an outsized impact with students across the university, its direct engagement with public policy students and programs, especially in the areas of tech policy, social policy and democracy, can be deepened. Strengthening this connection will highlight the natural synergies between doing good and serving the public good, ensuring that SPP students benefit directly from the Institute’s unique resources and expertise.
With deeper roots in SPP, Do Good will expand its reach in governance and leadership, ensuring that doing good translates into lasting systems change.
- Applied Programs with Policy Impact: Signature initiatives such as the Do Good Challenge and the Do Good Accelerator will be aligned with pressing policy challenges, enabling students to test solutions and connect them to governance and advocacy strategies.
- Curricular integration: Courses and academic opportunities that embed “doing good” into students’ policy education, ensuring that values are paired with evidence-based practice.
- Research and leadership development: Endowed professorships and faculty initiatives will anchor scholarship in philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, and civic innovation while partnering with SPP colleagues to examine how these areas intersect with public policy.
With your support, we will ensure that our students don’t just learn to do good—they develop the tools, networks and experiences to drive sustainable, systems-level change.
