Beyond-the-Classroom, Action-oriented Experiences
Our students aren’t just joining a hypercompetitive workforce. They’re defining it. Terps should have the opportunity to level up their learning through action-oriented experiences to make an impact as interns, advocates and researchers now.
UMD’s living-learning programs, ranked every year among the nation’s Top 10 by U.S. News & World Report, bring together students with different majors but a common interest, from cybersecurity to art to global public health. They share a residence hall and faculty mentors as they have conversations, classes and collaborations and build a small community on a big campus.
UMD students consistently report that internships are among the most transformative experiences of their education. Through hands-on roles in nonprofits, media outlets, global financial giants or tech startups, students gain far more than résumé lines; they sharpen their abilities and engage directly with the challenges shaping our world.
UMD’s Office of Undergraduate Research empowers students of all levels of experience and campus partners to engage and succeed in shared inquiry, creative activity and scholarship. It provides opportunities for undergraduates to be hands-on in research activities, grows our undergraduate research culture and fosters innovation in teaching and learning.
Studying abroad is far more than traveling far. It’s about expanding students’ perspectives, experiencing different cultures and learning new ways to communicate and work with people. Our Education Abroad program offers hundreds of options for students to fly out of their comfort zones, whether for a week, semester or year, and earn academic credit.
With philanthropic support, we can impact how Terps learn, gain professional and life experiences and leave UMD prepared to engage in their careers and communities.
