Providing current-use scholarship funds and establishing and growing scholarship endowments ensures young women and men will have access to education and experiential learning at a world-class institution and competition in the preeminent athletic conference, while also positioning Maryland Athletics to vie for conference and national championships.

Name, image and likeness (NIL) rules enacted in 2021 and the landmark House v. NCAA settlement in June 2025 brought sweeping changes to college athletics, including revenue sharing for student-athletes. While young women and men can capitalize on these non-traditional opportunities, scholarships remain both the key to college athletics and at the core of Maryland Athletics' mission is to unlock a brighter future for its 500-plus student-athletes.

The House v. NCAA settlement also enacted changes to how scholarships can be allocated by schools. Traditional NCAA scholarship limits have been removed and roster limits have been established for each sport, allowing for a significant increase in scholarship opportunities for student-athletes. This represents a significant competitive advantage for schools with the financial resources to fund additional scholarships.
